Guest Speaker

COMEDIAN turned therapist Ruby Wax was a special guest speaker at a mental health conference held in Salford.

Hosted by the charity Start in Salford, the conference at the University of Salford and the Salford Museum and Art Gallery, explored mental and emotional well-being.

The Girls On Top star gave an insightful talk on mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, which she uses daily.

Michelle Dennett, from Start in Salford, said: ‘We are thrilled at the response the conference has had. Our aim was to get everyone talking about mental health to put it firmly on the map and, most importantly, to reduce the stigma which still exists.

“We hope that bringing this event to Salford has helped to highlight the great work mental health professionals, service providers and service users are doing in the city in their quest for parity in this difficult time of cuts, and it goes some way to making mental health everyone’s business.”

Delegates travelled from all over the region to be part of the sold out event, which also included speeches by city mayor Ian Stewart.

The conference also marked the 20th anniversary of creative arts organisation Start in Salford, which provides activities to people affected by mental health difficulties.
